Birds falling from sky

(from nz.general)

The dead blackbirds are not our English blackbird, Turdus merula. The
American birds are another species that live in flocks and can be a
nuisance.
Deliberate poisoning seems unlikely with such large numbers involved.

But many birds falling from the sky are not a new phenomenon.

Numbers 11: 31-33 KJV

"And there went forth a wind from the LORD, and brought quails from the
sea, and let them fall by the camp, as it were a day's journey on this side,
and as it were a day's journey on the other side, round about the camp, and
as it were two cubits high upon the face of the earth.

And the people stood up all that day, and all that night, and all the next
day, and they gathered the quails: he that gathered least gathered ten
homers: and they spread them all abroad for themselves round about the camp.

And while the flesh was yet between their teeth, ere it was chewed, the
wrath of the LORD was kindled against the people, and the LORD smote the
people with a very great plague."
...........

Now what could have caused that? It would be a legend handed down of course,
but probably based on a somewhat exaggerated real incident.
(It comes from the Exodus, after the crossing of the Red Sea, while they
were on the journey.)

It would be soon after the Ten Plagues of Egypt, which some think were
caused by the Thera eruption. If so, there could well be some kind of
poisonous volcanic gas cloud emitted which would float over to that region.
That may have accounted for the sudden death of those who ate the quail,
though something like salmonella could have been possible.

Could the American bird deaths be connected in some similar way? Gas cloud
in the sky drifting over?

Where is there some large volcanic area in America?
Yellowstone! it is a supervolcano just waiting to erupt.
If Yellowstone does go off, like our Taupo eruption, it could well be the
end of the civilized world as we know it.
Certainly most of North America would be affected, perhaps left
uninhabitable.

Perhaps this is a warning?
