Lilith, posted from rec.org.mensa

" The wild beasts of the desert shall also meet with the wild beasts of
the island, and the satyr shall cry to his fellow; the screech owl also
shall rest there, and find for herself a place of rest." Isaiah 34:14 KJV

The screech owl is supposed to be Lilith. (Nothing there about Adam. Lilith was Adam's first wife). But it's just an owl that screeches instead of hooting, rather alarming if you
don't know what it is. I prefer "more pork".
(For those who don't know, the Morepork is New Zealand's native owl. Its call sounds like "More pork".)

Read the whole chapter in the King James version, it's terrifying. It
seems to predict a huge volcanic eruption and the aftermath, when the wild
creatures take over.

The Darby Bible Translation does mention Lilith:

"And there shall the beasts of the desert meet with the jackals, and the wild goat shall cry to his fellow; the lilith also shall settle there, and find for herself a place of rest."

Some translations have night monster instead of screech owl.

The satyr in the KJV version is the wild goat or hairy goat, not the satyr of classical times.
